Posada Ziga in Mazunte, Mexico: Premier Budget Beach Hotel | Hotel Tip of the Week

Welcome to our weekly Hotel Tip of the Week series. Traveling full-time means we've stayed in countless hotels worldwide. Amid the mediocre budget options, we've uncovered true gems. Each week, we share one personally tested recommendation that proves budget travel can be both affordable and enjoyable. This week: Posada Ziga, an exceptional budget hotel in Mazunte, Mexico.

The previous night had been our trip's worst—filthy and unbearable—in a makeshift hostel. At dawn, we fled in search of better digs in Mazunte. A quick beachfront survey revealed our top pick.

Nestled 1 hour from Huatulco's eco-resorts and 40 minutes from Puerto Escondido, Mazunte is a charming village of 700 locals and a main road lined with side streets shared with visitors. While it offers solid budget hotels, Posada Ziga at the beach's far end stole the show—ironically, next to our nightmare hostel.

With 14 rooms (8 private baths; more added soon), it's family-run by locals—supporting the community unlike many foreigner-owned spots. Rooms are spotless, spacious, with mosquito nets, in-room safes (rare in budgets), tables, wardrobes, and private terraces overlooking the Pacific.

Wi-Fi shines here (free throughout), though ocean stairs tempt distraction. We even celebrated our first 100 travel days here, penning a milestone post terrace-side.

Standout Feature: Private Ocean-View Terraces

Shared by two rooms each, these roofed terraces include tables, chairs, sturdy new hammocks (perfectly hung, no floor drag), and Pacific vistas—rain or shine.

Room for Improvement: Restaurant Pricing and Menu

Staff excels, but restaurant prices target mid-range wallets despite budget guests. With Mazunte's superior beach eateries, lower prices and a richer Mexican menu (beyond seafood/soup) would shine.
