Discover Talpa de Allende: Jalisco’s Enchanting Pine & Maple Forest Town

It's always a good time to explore a new place, how about choosing one surrounded by pine trees where you'll even find a forest of maple trees? This place is located in Mexico and its name is Talpa de Allende, Jalisco, a Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) that will make you fall in love wherever you go.
Talpa de Allende is located in the northwest of Jalisco and borders to the north with Puerto Vallarta and Mascota. To get there -by road- from Guadalajara the journey takes 3 hours, from Puerto Vallarta 2 and a half hours and if you travel from Colima it will be 5 hours.

 

The climate in Talpa de Allende is of hot springs, mainly during the month of May when, on average, temperatures of 35º C ( 95º F) are registered. The summer is accompanied by intense rains and during the winter temperatures of up to 1ºC ( 33.8ºF ) are registered in months like January.

 

The Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Talpa is one of the main attractions of this Pueblo Mágico, since every year it receives millions of people who visit it. That is why at the entrance of Talpa is the Arco de Bienvenida (Arch of Welcome), which indicates the end of la Ruta de los Peregrinos (Pilgrims' Route) and receives the faithful who visit the city and this important temple.

 

It is a typical colonial town in which faith is expressed through different churches and chapels in which people are grateful for the blessings and favors that were granted to them.

 

The biodiversity of Talpa de Allende was one of the reasons for its founding during the colonial era, since a silver mine was exploited there. In 1599, Santiago de Talpa was established and, in 1885, the name Allende was added -in honor of Ignacio Allende- so it ended up being the Villa de Talpa de Allende. Talpa comes from Nahuatl and means “on the ground”.

 

Talpa de Allende is a place where history, faith and natural attractions are available to its visitors. This town is the last stop on la Ruta del Peregrino, a journey of approximately 117 kilometers ( 72 miles) and 200 years of antiquity that passes through different municipalities of Jalisco: it begins in Ameca and ends in Talpa de Allende, crossing the Sierra Madre Occidental.
