Ajijic: Mexico's Timeless Lakefront Town
One of the oldest villages in Mexico
Founded in 1531, the Magical Town of Ajijic, is one of the oldest towns in the country, its name comes from the Nahuatl Axixic which means "where the water spills" or "where the water gushes."
Before the Spanish conquest, in Ajiijic, a Nahuatl community inhabited on the shores, and they named the place as one of the four cardinal points, in reference to the climate and powerful energy of the region.

With approximately 9,500 inhabitants, Ajijic, has residents of many nationalities, being an example of a vast interculturality to the world. The temperature and the ancestral tranquility of the town are what made the North American inhabitants make the decision to settle in this Magical Town, creating a population without equal.

How do I get to Ajijic?
Access from any part of the country is simple, either by air or by land. Chapala is 20 minutes from the International Airport of the City of Guadalajara, you can leave for Ajijic from there, but if you come from the center of Guadalajara, just take the Guadalajara-Chapala highway.
The trip along the highway from Guadalajara to Chapala is one hour, and the road has several tourist stops.
