San Gervasio: A Premier Pre-Hispanic Archaeological Site on Cozumel
The history of the Mayans
The archeological complex, dating from 100 BC, has different areas to explore: Chichán Nah, El Álamo, Nohoch Nah, Murciélagos or Ka'na Nah. The sacbés, or white sand roads, will take you to each one of these places. While you go through the area, imagine how the life of the Mayan people would have been, try to imagine their everyday activities and they religious ceremonies.
The Arco of San Gervasio in Cozumel is one of the most visited places of this archaeological area because it is very similar to the ones that are in Chichén Itzá, Kabáh or Labná. If you are looking for the strongest connection with nature you can head for La Casa Alta or Ka Nah and visit the cenote there.
The best option to get to this archaeological area in Cozumel is by getting a taxi or a car. It is open to the public every day from 8 AM to 4:30 PM.
