The Douglas County Museum of History and Art makes people and their stories come alive, presenting and protecting a unique heritage in a warm, welcoming environment. Visit our rotating exhibits of the mid-20th century, private collections including a display of school lunchboxes, children’s phonographs and items from a personal collection of Coca Cola articles. In recent years, we have added a tribute to our veterans, black education history, Fanny Mae Davis (first County historian), and Young Vansant (one of the first settlers). We have also added exhibits that feature early medical items, and how merchants and farmers lived. There is also a Visitor Information Center to help visitors discover other experiences in Douglas County. The Old Courthouse now houses the Douglas County Museum of History and Art and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This structure is a perfect example of the rapidly disappearing international style of architecture.
