Kuang Si Waterfall, Laos: A Paradise Awaits
One of the top highlights for travelers in Luang Prabang, Laos, is a day trip to the stunning Kuang Si Waterfalls (also spelled Kuang Xi). We shared the affordable 180 Kip tuk-tuk ride with a couple we met the day before on the bus from Vang Vieng.
Arriving early helped us beat the crowds from afternoon buses, giving us near-exclusive access to this natural wonder. We braved a refreshing swim in the turquoise pools before the sun fully warmed them.
Pack your swimsuit and apply mosquito repellent liberally—day or night. Aedes mosquitoes, which transmit dengue fever during daylight hours, thrive here. Our travel companion learned this lesson firsthand, underscoring the importance of protection at all times.
Scott and I skipped it initially, unaware of the daytime dengue risk at the time.
Designated swimming pools feature a thrilling rope swing and small waterfalls for jumping. Always heed signs marking non-swimming areas to preserve the site.
