Acclaimed Chef Heidi Vukov Reveals Her Favorite Grand Strand Restaurants

Acclaimed Chef Heidi Vukov Shares Her Top Dining Picks on the Grand Strand

Heidi Vukov is the chef and owner of Hook & Barrel Restaurant at 8014 N Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach. Opened in early 2017, it’s South Carolina’s first “sustainable” restaurant. Reclaimed wood from onsite trees decorates the interior, unbreakable plateware reduces breakage, and wine by the glass is poured from barrels to eliminate bottle waste while keeping it fresh. The menu highlights sustainable seafood, powered by an on-demand electric kitchen.

We asked Heidi about her favorite Grand Strand restaurants for downtime from her demanding schedule.

First, The Cypress Room at Island Vista Resort (6000 North Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach) offers exceptional Lowcountry cuisine with stunning ocean views for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Second, the iconic Sea Captain’s House (3002 North Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach), once a beach house, delivers panoramic ocean vistas from every seat. Primarily seafood-focused with other options, it serves breakfast and lunch.

Heidi also owns two Croissants Bistro & Bakery spots: one at 8014 N Kings Highway (attached to Hook & Barrel) and another at 3751 Robert M Grissom Parkway (near Broadway at the Beach). Open for breakfast and lunch, they offer catering, wedding cakes, and house-roasted coffee. Hours: 7 a.m. Monday–Saturday, 9 a.m. Sunday.

Hook & Barrel opens daily at 4 p.m. for dinner, with happy hour 4–6 p.m. Heidi and her skilled team invite you to “get hooked”!
