With over 1,800 restaurants along the Grand Strand, choosing where to dine can feel overwhelming. Luckily, Chef Jamie Daskalis of Johnny D’s Waffles and Bakery shares her favorite Myrtle Beach-area spots.

Johnny D’s has two locations: Myrtle Beach at King’s Hwy and 33rd Avenue North, and North Myrtle Beach at King’s Hwy and 40th Avenue South. Both offer exceptional eggs Benedict, creative waffles, and beloved local dishes. Chef Jamie grew up in the restaurant business, working at her father’s diners in New Jersey and New York.

Her father first fell in love with Myrtle Beach on vacation and relocated there. Chef Jamie soon followed, captivated by the Grand Strand’s charm. She opened Johnny D’s—named after her father—and has since been honored as a 2020 Chef Ambassador for South Carolina. She also authored the cookbook Making It Delicious.

One top pick is Sol Cocina Mexicana in Pawleys Island. Drawn by their stunning Instagram, Chef Jamie visited and was impressed by the open kitchen where the husband-and-wife owners prepare dishes to order. Don’t miss the guacamole, tuna ceviche, pork tacos, and salmon.

Chef Jamie and her son love Joey Doggs Burgers & Fries in Surfside Beach. This family-run spot serves burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, and wings. Her go-to is a hamburger with pickles, sautéed onions, mushrooms, and jalapeños, paired with fries and ranch. The onion rings are essential!
