Complete Guide to the 2019 NYC Pride March: Route, Participation, Tips & More
When and Where Does the Pride March Start?
WorldPride kicks off on June 26, 2019, with an Opening Ceremony at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The NYC Pride March begins on June 30 at noon from Madison Square Park. It's free and open to spectators of all backgrounds. The route proceeds south on 5th Avenue from 26th Street to 8th Street, west across 6th Avenue to Christopher Street, passing the Stonewall National Monument, then north on 7th Avenue past the New York City AIDS Memorial, ending in Chelsea near 23rd Street.
How Can I Participate in the March?
Heritage of Pride, the organizer of NYC Pride, requires registration with a group to march. Registration is closed, but some groups welcome new members. Contact march-help@nycpride.org or 212-807-6327 for opportunities to join or connect.

How Long Does the March Last?
Over 115,000 marchers and 100 floats will participate, making this the world's largest Pride March, amplified for Stonewall's 50th anniversary. Expect nearly two hours from start to finish; last year, it extended until 9:30 PM. Plan for extended timelines due to high participation.
What Should I Bring?
Expect hot New York City weather. Seek shade on west- or south-facing sides. Essentials include water, sunscreen, patience, cash (vendors are cash-only), comfortable shoes, a phone charger for sharing moments, and a spirit of appreciation for LGBTQ+ history and progress.
Is the March Accessibility-Friendly?
Yes, with reserved seating for scooters, wheelchairs, and ASL interpreters at St. Vincent’s Triangle Park (free but sold out). Contact march-help@nycpride.org or 212-807-6327 for details.
What Else Should I Know?
Anticipate crowds of about 4.5 million. Wider sidewalks on avenues offer more space; the Village near Stonewall will be busiest. Portable bathrooms line the route. Grand marshals include the cast of FX's Pose, UK Black Pride activist Phyll Opoku-Gyimah, The Trevor Project, Gay Liberation Front, and Monica Helms, creator of the Transgender Pride Flag. Post-march, WorldPride’s Closing Ceremony runs 7:00-10:00 PM in Times Square (free; registration required; doors at 5:00 PM).
