Palm Canyon Trail

R renowned as an epic adventure, the Palm Canyon Trail highlights the Santa Rosa Mountains' rugged beauty. This 29-mile point-to-point ride traverses stunning desert landscapes. Ideal for intermediate riders when paired with a knowledgeable partner, it features a demanding 2,000-foot climb followed by a thrilling 6,000-foot descent. Though not highly technical, the trail's length, cacti, and steep drops demand extra snacks and water.
To reach the lower trailhead, follow Hwy. 111 east from Palm Springs to the Rimrock Shopping Center (at Gene Autry Trail). For the upper trailhead, continue east to CA-74 (Monterey), turn right onto Ribbonwood Drive, then Pine View Road; park where the pavement ends.
Art Smith Trail
This demanding, varied route winds through the scenic Santa Rosa Mountains. Best for fit, experienced riders, it challenges novices with steep climbs requiring dismounts. Well-maintained throughout, it rewards perseverance with diverse terrain and vistas.
Access via I-10 east to the Monterey Avenue (CA-74) exit, heading south. Proceed uphill past Bighorn; the trailhead is on the right.
