Why Christmas Under the Oaks is a Must-Visit Holiday Festival in Sulphur, Louisiana
As a devoted fan of Christmas traditions, I look forward every year to the Christmas Under the Oaks festival at the Brimstone Museum Complex in Sulphur, Louisiana. Held November 30 to December 1, with a Holiday House preview party on November 29, this event embodies the holiday spirit through stunning decorations, twinkling lights, live music, candy canes, hot chocolate, and the wide-eyed wonder of children alongside the joyful smiles of adults. I absolutely adore it! It's one of Louisiana's rare spots where it "snows" annually—a magical bonus.

Approaching the festival, the holiday lights mesmerizingly illuminate the Henning Cultural Center against ancient oaks draped in sparkling strands. Colorful carnival rides, a decorated pavilion with music and activities, the historic Brimstone Museum, and the Sulphur Mines Home—filled with period furniture—create a step back in time across the grounds.

The Holiday House inside the Henning Cultural Center delights with its garland-draped dual porch balcony. Local vendors, jewelers, and artisans display premium Christmas gifts, while expanded heated tents and annex buildings overflow with unique treasures.

A personal favorite is the exceptional toffee vendor—her confections are divine. Food Network star Jay Ducote offers his renowned barbecue products with samples. Yum! The tea room serves gumbo and hot chocolate, making a bowl of gumbo an annual must-have.
Last year, edible candy cane spoons thrilled the kids, dissolving into hot chocolate for a peppermint-infused treat. Enchanting surprises like this appear throughout the event.

Within the Brimstone Museum depot, an expansive model train exhibit boasts intricate details in miniature buildings, people, cars, trains, and signs—truly awe-inspiring. Children eagerly film the action.

Beyond pulled pork sandwiches, pizza, and other savory options, enjoy cotton candy or funnel cakes—festival essentials. After dusting off powdered sugar, we stumbled upon a live nativity recreating a biblical town with animals in The Grove Park near Pecan Street, Sulphur's top spot for Christmas lights. At the bandstand, snow began to fall!

As "snow" falls, watching kids and adults reach skyward captures pure Christmas magic. Events like Christmas Under the Oaks inspire holiday cheer and pave the way for a merry Christmas and happy New Year!
