Brisbane's Best Doughnuts: Where to Taste the City's Top Treats

Salted caramel, lemon meringue, custard, cinnamon or Nutella – whatever the flavour, Brisbane can’t get enough doughnuts right now.

Brisbane s Best Doughnuts: Where to Taste the City s Top Treats

The craze has swept the city, starting in our bakeries and resulting in entire brick ‘n’ mortar stores dedicated solely to the “holey” treat. Discover below where you can get your fix of Brisbane’s best doughnuts.

Best Bakeries

Flour & Chocolate, Morningside
Brisbane’s first place to get a “cronut”, this suburban patisserie has dedicated doughnut days (Wednesdays for classic and filled doughnuts, Thursdays for cronuts) where you can pick up imaginative changing flavours such as white chocolate pistachio, peanut butter and chocolate, and boysenberry jam.

Brewbakers, Albion
Sourdough doughnuts are the game here – which pretty much makes them healthy, right? Piped with homemade jam, chocolate or butterscotch – this recipe took six years to perfect.

Botanica, Red Hill & Teneriffe
Better known for its healthy salad bar, Botanica’s window display is filled with delicious morsels including baked bundt doughnuts. Pick up a cinnamon bundt and be glad knowing it is baked fresh and gluten free.

Doughnut Time

Doughnut Time
Doughnut Time’s Fortitude Valley hole-in-the-wall store has been so popular it launched a food truck and six more stores around Brisbane. First-timers should try the Nutella-filled treat – it is a 50/50 dough-to-Nutella ratio – but the doughnuts' names are the true highlight.

Donut Boyz
At Westfield Garden City, Ipswich, and Maroochydoore, Donut Boyz are the guys behind the delicious lemon meringue and apple pie doughnuts.

NoDo

NoDo, Newstead & Elizabeth Street
Pronounced "no dough", Nodo has quickly gained a reputation for producing the best baked, gluten-free doughnuts in town. The aim is to spoil people who really, truly genuinely care about what they eat and to spread happiness through artisanal baked goods.

Belle Epoque, Fortitude Valley
Translated as "the Beautiful Era", The Emporium's Belle Epoque offers custard-filled, cinnamon-rolled doughnuts alongside a uniquely French menu – come for the doughnut, stay for the champagne.

Market stalls and food trucks

Gluten Off
Sometimes you can’t go past a classic round cinnamon doughnut – and here you wouldn’t even guess they are gluten-free. These dough-slinging cowboys are located at Eat Street Northshore. The lemon meringue is a must.

Chocolate Komberry & The Doughnut Bar
Also servicing the good people at Eat Street Northshore, these two food trucks serve up Brisbane’s biggest cronuts and doughnuts. Inject yours with a Nutella syringe for an extra $2.

Divine Doughnuts
Found at West End’s Davies Park Markets every Saturday, Divine Doughnuts prides itself on serving fluffy and rustic warm cinnamon doughnuts. Get yours plain or filled with award-winning jams and drizzled with Belgian chocolate.

Barcadia

Barcadia, Bulimba
Stick around for dessert because you won't want to miss the doughnut lollipop platter to share. It comes with a vanilla bean syringe, sugar glaze and Oreo crunch. Oh my.

Julius Pizzeria, South Brisbane
This South Brisbane restaurant serves traditional “Frittelle di Ricotta”. Tuck into fried ricotta and apple dumplings with apple puree and fior di latte ice-cream.

Bucci, Fortitude Valley
Another Italian joint, save room for the bombolini at Bucci. The bombolini are paired with caramelised coconut cream panna cotta and salted chocolate fudge.

  • Brisbane’s Best Tapas: Share the Flavor with Friends

Once upon a time, according to legend, the Wise King of Spain was struck down with a serious illness that meant he could only eat small portions of food (with wine, of course). How tragic. Others say a more humble beginning came about when bartenders used a slice of bread as a tapa or lid to keep flies out of drinks.
