Every time we visit Ben’s Burgers in Winn Lane we suffer the internal battle of choosing between a truly epic burger or the mean serve of chilli cheese fries, so our motto is to channel Old El Paso and just have both.

The Boo, Newstead

The potato game is strong at Brisbane's oldest bowls club. At your next game, order the shoestring fries dressed with chili salt with the side of avocado + yoghurt dip. It won't matter how badly you've bowled when you've got a happy belly full of these chips.

Botero, Brisbane City

Oh boy. Trust us on this one – once you bite into Botero’s crispy hand-cut chips covered in nori salt with homemade Japanese mayo and spicy ketchup dipping sauces we GUARANTEE you won’t want to share. And prepare to lick the addictive salt from the bottom of the plate.

Carolina Kitchen, Cooparoo

The insanely good wings at Carolina Kitchen are worth a trip to Coorparoo in their own right and the New York Fries topped with cheese, sour cream and homemade chilli sauce are just as delish. Our stomachs are grumbling at the thought.

ChipTease, Food Truck

Whether you’re an ol’ faithful chip-and-dip fan or love a lil somethin' somethin' extra the ChipTease food truck delivers the goods with loaded options like Canadian poutine, pulled pork and gravy. Those with a sweet tooth will love the Nutella signature sundae – sugar-coated sweet potato chips, drizzled with Nutella, topped with Chantilly crème.

Chompers, Brisbane City

Chompers has a noteworthy range of cooked potatoes if you're over the signature hand-cut fries. Try them curly, sweet potatoes, scalloped, or beer battered. You can even order you chips dressed up like a "rockstar" topped with 7 different cheeses, mince, bacon bits, and caramalised onion, drizzled in Chomper's sauce.

The Fishmonger's Wife, Hawthorne

The light beer-battered chips with a thick, super-crunchy shell and soft potatoey centre from Fishmonger’s Wife sure are worthy of the accolades of Australia’s best fish ‘n’ chip shop from 2008-2009 by Crisco.

The French Food Shop, Fortitude Valley

The Valley's authentic French bistro does a version of the French-Canadienne favourite, the poutine, with shredded cheddar and gravy. Pair the poutine with a glass of French wine and you've got yourself quite the international lunch experience!

Goat Pie Guy, New Farm Markets (every 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month)

The best pies in Brissy also have their chips on point. Try the cheeseburger pie with a side of their truffle salted chips for an brag-worthy twist on a classic meal.

The Gunshop Cafe, Milton

Adding eggs sunny-side up to your chips make it an appropriate breakfast meal, right? The twice cooked crispy "catalunya" chips are topped with two baked eggs, shaved chorizo, manchego cheese, and chipotle aioli. This dish is the Gunshop way to seize the day.

Let’s be real, when you’re at Red Hook you may as well just go cray. We recommend you order a plate of the "Gravy it’s cold outside" fries – a bed of spuds in a creamy peppercorn gravy with mozzarella cheese. Unapologetically calorific and definitely not for the faint-hearted. Extra points if you can fit in a supersized burger. Our tip: wear loose pants.

Sixes and Sevens, Fortitude Valley

At the little cottage on the corner of James and Arthur, you'll find a charming gastropub with one of the best poutines in the city. Shoestring fries, creamy cheese curd, and covered in gravy--it's the perfect side dish to enjoy with an ice cold beer on the AstroTurf to soak in the afternoon sun.

The menu had at "truffle oil fries." These fries are the perfect accompaniment to your drink and meal. The roof top view of King Georges Square isn't bad either.
