Is there anything better than the smell of bacon cooking? Nup. We’ve gone the whole hog and hunted high and low for Brisbane’s most epic bacon dishes.

Don’t go bacon our heart. Read on and pig out…

Thirst for bacon

Maple bacon bourbon smash – Delfina’s Bistro. Maple syrup, fresh orange and bourbon comes together in this indulgent cocktail that’s topped with a strip of crispy bacon no less.

Cheeseburger martini – Red Hook. With a mustard rim and bacon swizzle stick this isn’t your average martini. Pair with the cheese and bacon fries.

Good Mornin’ America – Canvas. “It’s like a high-five for your mouth!” reads the menu. This short drink uses heaps of maple bacon, George Dickel Bourbon, Frangelico, cream and vanilla. Yesss.

Breakfast time

Aussie Asian Eggs – Billykart. Perhaps an excellent hangover cure, fried noodles are stacked with bacon, bacon, bacon, a big juicy prawn and two deep-fried gooey eggs. Chef Ben O’Donohue tops it off with an Asian sauce and fresh hits of chilli.

“Bacon and eggs” – Gerard’s Bistro. Well, this isn’t your classic hot brekky – 63 degree duck eggs meet smoked bacon mousse on maple toasted buckwheat.
Banana French Toast – Artie and Mai – Candied bacon ice-cream. Salted caramel sauce. Tomato jam. We’re done.

Avocado and hummus on rye – The Jetty Oxford. Sounds too healthy, right? Don’t worry, it comes with honey-candied bacon, poached eggs and dukkah.

Potato skins and bacon jam – Ginger & Green. You haven’t seen a breakfast quite like this. Crispy potato skins are filled with tender pulled beef, bacon jam(!!) and  gooey gorgonzola, which is speared by tall shards of crisp prosciutto (bacon’s wealthy cousin) and served with two fried eggs.

Ricotta buttermilk pancakes – Harveys Bar + Bistro.  Adding smoked bacon is optional – but it should be mandatory. The pancakes are stacked with caramelised banana and honeycomb butter – opt to add bacon for $1.50.

Jak’s Benedict – Jak & Hill. This is the benedict that has it all – bacon, a potato rosti, poached eggs, avo & feta and hollandaise. Finally people.
Bacon, Jamon croquette & slow cooked egg – 85 Miskin St. The first ingredient on the list is bacon, the second is jamon – bacon’s favourite cousin. It’s served on sourdough with homemade beans.

Bacon & porcini mushroom ragout – 85 Miskin St. Another killer from this Toowong favourite, it’s also served on sourdough with poached eggs.

Big daddy – Bitter Suite. Say hello to thick-cut honey bacon. It’s saddled up next to a veal and pork terrine and crumbed black pudding with eggs, spinach, roma tomatoes, mushrooms, a hash brown, Turkish toast and smoked chilli relish in the big breakfast to finish all.

Burgers

Doughnutfukwitdis – Ze Pickle. Let’s just go over this slowly. Nutella. Smoked. Bacon. Even better, it’s served with a hand-pressed wagyu beef pattie, double jack cheese and smacked between a grilled original glaze Doughnut Time doughnut.

BAE burger – B’Coz Bacon. Brisbane’s bacon dedicated food truck (you read that correctly) does one killer, no filler, bacon and egg burger.

MK Special – Miss Kay’s. Our pick of the lot, the MK Special has maple bacon, a beef patty, onion rings, American cheese, lettuce, pickle and sweeeeet barbecue sauce and mayo.

Any burger, add bacon – Ben’s Burgers. The menu has just three burgers and you can’t make any alterations (why mess with perfection is the attitude), but the BB gang understand that adding bacon is only a good thing and give you a choice of regular or candied bacon.

Ya Bacon Me Crazy – Doughnut Time. Keep an eye out for this little number on rotation. It’s glazed with maple and topped with streak of candied caon.

Make a meal of it

Add bacon – Statler & Waldolf. This gastropub knows limiting bacon to merely one dish isn’t allowing it to reach its potential. A bold offer at the base of the menu lets you add bacon to any dish for just $3.

Tartufo pizza – Julius Pizzeria. Pizza lovers line right up – this creamy, cheesy number (mozzarella and stracchino) has a bianche sauce base and truffle paste to boast about – but the salty bacon does its part, and mushrooms make it ‘healthy’.

Jalapeno poppers and dusted wings – Buffalo Bar. Filled with three cheeses and house-smoked bacon, dip those jalapeno poppers in the blue cheese ranch sauce. Best paired with the bacon, cheese and chive dusted wings, obviously.

It used to be a case of vodka, gin, bourbon, whisky, tequila and rum meeting their friends prosecco, mezcal, Campari – with a dash of fruity liqueur, wedge of citrus and sprig of mint to finish it off.  Nowadays our bartenders are playing with kaffir lime-infused vodka, orange-soaked wine, urban rooftop honey, local lilli pilli gin and jalapeno agave. We won’t say forget the classics (since they’re also having a resurgence) but give something new a whirl at one (or three)
