900 Days of Nomadic Travel: Honest Reflections on Whimsy, Housesitting, and City Dreams

Thursday, October 11 marked our 900th day of travel! Days 801–900 were our most remote yet, spent on secluded beaches in far-flung destinations...

A key theme of our journey is embracing spontaneity. We plan meticulously before arriving at new spots—researching deeply to make the most of our time.

But where we go often shifts on a whim: a last-minute flight from Panama to Germany instead of Colombia, or three blissful weeks in Lisbon before Canada.

Most recently, we pivoted to two months housesitting on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula beaches. Mexico was the original plan post-Mexico housesit, but Costa Rica called suddenly.

Housesitting is another passion, fueling our freedom. It lets us unwind, cook home meals, and immerse deeply in places. These 100 days were mostly housesits.

No regrets on whims, but these 100 days shifted our beach dreams. We adore waves crashing, sunrises, relaxed vibes—but only for a month or two.

We're city dwellers at heart.

We crave culture, dining, art, and humanity's diverse expressions. We fulfilled beach fantasies between housesits, but detoured to Mexico City—and now we're trading sands for streets.

Next: A Month in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Pre-trip, we eyed London-Rome-Buenos Aires flights. A whim started us in Las Vegas instead. Buenos Aires always loomed; after 2+ years, flights are booked.

By our 1,000-day reflections, we'll have explored Buenos Aires and ventured into Argentina's wine regions or glaciers.

Post-Buenos Aires, we'll resume our rhythm. These 100 days spanned just Mexico and Costa Rica, four or five spots amid housesits—a tortoise pace we needed. Constant motion exhilarates short-term, but longer breaks sustain us.

Despite travel doubts, excitement surges. Palates whetted for wine and cheese, we're ready to dust off passports for our Buenos Aires apartment (via Wimdu.com) and explore.
