800 Days of Nomadic Travel: Reflections on Our Last 100 Days and 6-Year Anniversary

Today marks 800 days living as traveling nomads and 2,190 days together—our 6-year anniversary. Two profound milestones to celebrate!

If one word captures the last 100 days, it's contrasting. Our journey spanned extremes, more varied than any prior period.

From Asia's subtle charms to India's bold intensity, the expansive Tucson desert, and now a private beach house in southern Mexico for two months.

The World's Best Beaches

Concluding seven months in Southeast Asia—from wide-eyed arrivals in Bangkok to seasoned explorers. At Day 700, we savored Sihanoukville, Cambodia's top beach spot at Beach Club resort.

A grueling hour-long jungle hike on undeveloped Koh Rong revealed beaches rivaling the Caribbean—India's fell short. After 800 days, our verdict: the Caribbean tops global beaches (pending Maldives).

Cambodia emerged as our Southeast Asia favorite. Travel challenges felt authentic; locals' warmth—endless smiles and waves—captivated us. A joyful week in Siem Reap with friends Shannon and Ana included Angkor Wat, pool lounging, and pure fun.

In India, reuniting with Jaime brought laughter (and solace during my injuries). Highlight: attending my best friend's wedding in Denver—a rare anchor after 14 years abroad.

Nomadic Life Thrives on Intense Contrasts

From Siem Reap's rickety tuk-tuk to Singapore's world-class metro: rustic Cambodia to futuristic city-state. We thrive in urban hubs, reveling in shiny cars, startups, and innovation.

India—a singular subcontinent—shrank and expanded our world. Unlike the Americas, Europe, or Asia, it provided a vital third vantage point. Exploring Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa left us eager for more.

Strategic Recovery is Essential

Injuries in chaotic India sidelined me despite solid care. Eyes fixed on Tucson: our 2010 house-sit hosts invited us back. Loving the dog, home, pool, and city, it promised respite post-India.

800 Days of Nomadic Travel: Reflections on Our Last 100 Days and 6-Year AnniversaryAnother stark shift: India's humid press to Arizona's dry scorch (we prefer 110°F heat). Dog walks, errands, pool reading, and phased work healed me perfectly—timed for Denver.

House-Sitting Opens Extraordinary Doors

Day 800: Our most remote spot yet—Mexico's beach house, our 11th house-sit in two years, longest at two months. Guard dog, work, snorkeling, and beach rhythms await.
