Rainy Days in Pucón, Chile: Top Activities and Cozy Silver Linings
The iconic Villarrica Volcano towers over the charming town of Pucón in Chile's Lake District. This snow-capped peak, often likened to Japan's Mount Fuji, draws hordes of tourists for its active lava lake and thrilling adventures. Hiking to the crater rim and sledding down its 10,000-foot slopes are among the most exhilarating experiences here—far outpacing even the quickest descents on Nicaragua's Cerro Negro.
Unfortunately, relentless rain prevented us from summiting during our visit. As nomadic travelers with pre-booked accommodations amid Chile's summer vacation rush, we couldn't linger. Our rain-soaked stay uncovered Pucón's German heritage—perfect for indoor indulgence. Dozens of cafés overflow with homemade cakes, craft beers, fresh breads, and chocolates (possibly the highest per capita worldwide!). Reward post-adventure or beat the weather at these favorites:

Top chocolates, cakes, ice cream, coffee, and full meals like salads, pizzas, and breakfast—all exceptional.
2. Friatto Gelateria
Divine gelato, cakes, and savories. Cozy back seating or prime people-watching on O'Higgins Avenue.
