Explore Cerro El Tortuguero: Mexico's Enchanted Hill of Legends

Legends of Mexico

There is a legend among the inhabitants of Macuspana, that at the top of the hill, there is an enchanted lake, if someone gets into it, they disappear.

Another of the popular legends that are told is that the ancient Mayans populated this part of the area, in order to facilitate their passing during the pilgrimages they made in honor of the God Zamná.

Connecting with the nature at Macuspana

The hill is located in the intermediate plains of Tabasco, within Macuspana. Popular among the inhabitants for having been inhabited by a large part of the Mayan civilization and several settlers affirm that the connection between the civilization and the hill is still there.

It is believed that in ancient times, it was a place for ceremonial rites of the Mayans, you can see a few of the oldest vestiges of the Mayans a few steps away.

The regional director of INAH (Intituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia), affirmed that there are still four unexplored mounds, some objects and stelae that were found here, are in the Museo Regional de Antropología Carlos Pellicer Cámara, in Villahermosa.

The site took on worldwide relevance, since on its Monument 6 some glyphic inscriptions were found, where a calendar date of December 21, 2021 was identified, the end of a Mayan time cycle. And many interpreted that date as a prediction of the end of time.

If what you are looking for is to enjoy the views that Macuspana offers and to connect with ancient Mexico, Cerro El Tortuguero is the ideal place.
