Tres Cerritos: Discovering a Pre‑Hispanic Site with Teotihuacan and Tarasco Influences

This pre-Hispanic settlement began to be explored in 1984, its name is due to the shape of the three most outstanding structures you will see on the site.
There is still little data of its origin, since it is said that there could have been two important periods that the area experienced. In the first, there is a great similarity with Teotihuacan, where some of its structures preserve slope and board.
However, the other period is associated with the Tarasco Empire, who used the site to bury their dead on top of the walls and within the collapses of the structures.
The place, Patrimonio Cultural de Michoacán y de la Nación (“Cultural Heritage of Michoacán and the Nation”), is located 10 minutes from the Pueblo Mágico de Cuitzeo and besides the serenity offered by the small site, the views of the lake are a true gift.
Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes because even though there is grass, most of the place is for walking; don't expect to find any open stores since there aren't any. Tres Cerritos seeks to maintain its peaceful atmosphere, so what abounds is calm.
