Hotel Tip of the Week: Tropicana Lanta Resort – Secluded Bliss in Koh Lanta

Welcome to our Hotel Tip of the Week series. As full-time nomads who've spent over 500 nights in hotels worldwide—from budget stays to luxury escapes—we only recommend properties we've personally experienced. Every hotel must be clean, comfortable, offer great value, and treat guests like family. This week: Tropicana Lanta Resort on Koh Lanta, Thailand.

Dani surprised me with a week-long getaway to Koh Lanta for my birthday. After a disappointing Bangkok stint and bumpy bus rides, we arrived exhausted. Stepping off the shuttle at Tropicana Lanta Resort, we instantly felt cared for.

Any travel fatigue vanished as we strolled through lush tropical gardens past sunbathing kittens on bungalow steps. It was low season's end, so the 24-villa resort felt intimate with few guests.

Hotel Tip of the Week: Tropicana Lanta Resort – Secluded Bliss in Koh LantaOur poolside bungalow offered instant tranquility. Stylish with white curtains contrasting rich wood tones, it featured ample windows for natural light, a king-size bed with fluffy pillows as requested, and nightly turndown service with tropical flowers. The star? The outdoor bathroom.

Hotel Tip of the Week: Tropicana Lanta Resort – Secluded Bliss in Koh LantaEverything—from marble sink to rain shower and toilet—was outdoors. A flashlight helped nighttime visits, but jungle-surrounded showers under sun or stars were invigorating. A high wall ensured privacy, though playful monkeys visited mornings—babies tumbling in trees, protective dads watching closely. We shared the space fascinatedly; even caught a romantic monkey moment!

This off-beach retreat includes 24 villas, a relaxing pool/jacuzzi, and a breezy restaurant/reception. Open for public lunch/dinner, breakfast (included) features guest-only toasting bread, fresh fruits, Thai sweets, tea/coffee, juices, and menu choices like pancakes, eggs, or Thai rice soup.

Hotel Tip of the Week: Tropicana Lanta Resort – Secluded Bliss in Koh LantaThe main building has a small library and computers; Wi-Fi was restaurant-only despite rumors. Smiling staff (limited English) exceeded expectations, bidding warm farewells after our stay.

Hotel Tip of the Week: Tropicana Lanta Resort – Secluded Bliss in Koh LantaKoh Lanta spans beaches; Klong Khon is walkable. Rent motorbikes ($6/day) or use tuk-tuks. Free 11am shuttle to Saladan town for shops/banks. Massage services available poolside or in-bungalow.

Stand-Out Feature: The Swimming Pool

Floating under jungle canopy or lounging to birdsong, the pool was pure relaxation. Jacuzzi was off-season quiet but promises high-season appeal.

Hotel Tip of the Week: Tropicana Lanta Resort – Secluded Bliss in Koh LantaRoom for Improvement: Vegetarian Options

Thai food abounds in veggies, yet the menu lacked Western/Thai vegetarian dishes. Distant eateries made on-site dining appealing—better options would elevate it.

Overall: Tropicana Lanta Resort

Koh Lanta evades Phuket/Phi Phi overtourism, feeling undiscovered. Off-beach seclusion and rustic charm deliver affordable luxury.
