Built in 1911 as the Southern Railway Freight Depot, the Dalton Freight Depot has been meticulously restored by the city in 2009. Today it serves as the Dalton Visitor’s Center and a charming gift shop, offering curated exhibits on railroad and Civil War history.

Railway enthusiasts will delight in the on‑site viewing platform, a real‑time ATCS monitor, live audio feeds from train radios, and a streaming webcam. From the platform, visitors can witness the dynamic crossing of CSX and Norfolk Southern tracks at the iconic “Dalton Diamond,” a 45‑degree rail intersection right in front of the view. Adjacent to the depot stands the 1949 Southern “Crescent City” Pullman car, a preserved piece of passenger rail heritage.

Start your Dalton adventure at the Freight Depot. It welcomes visitors daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on Sundays.
