Race Amity Day: Virtual Events Celebrating Cross-Racial Friendships on June 14, 2020

Race Amity Day celebrates the tradition of cross-racial friendships while sharing stories of friendships that bridge the racial divide with activities and programming. Typically held in person at David S. Lynch Park in Beverly, this year’s events will be held virtually via Zoom and all are invited to participate!

The day will be filled with events that promote cross-racial friendships and enhance cross-cultural understanding as part of an initiative to create equity, access, and social justice. This year’s Race Amity Day will feature drummers Joh Camara & Son, rapper Eche, and a short documentary on the history of Race Amity Day.

Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll will be joining the the event for a reading Massachusetts’ official Race Amity Day proclamation. Additional programming will include featuring original artwork, poetry, and performances submitted by youth and professional artists. At the conclusion of the program, participants will also have the opportunity to join in small breakout group dialogues.

This year’s virtual Race Amity Day on June 14, 2-4 pm, is free and open to all who wish to attend with advanced registration requested here.

Race Amity Day is a collaboration between the Beverly Multifaith Coalition, Heathmere Center for Cultural Engagement, and History Alive Inc. For more information and the latest event updates, follow the event on Facebook.
