Navigating Life's Twists: A Personal Update on New Ventures and Travel Plans

We realize we haven't shared enough about our personal lives on the blog, and that's changing. From now on, expect regular updates alongside our travel stories, tips, and photography advice.

If you follow us on Twitter, Facebook, or StumbleUpon, you've likely noticed our recent quiet spell. Life has been overwhelmingly busy, leading to fewer posts as we struggled to find time and energy.

Scott and I recently launched an architectural and real estate photography business while juggling full-time jobs, travel, and blogging. We've been planning this for months and finally took the plunge.

Life has a way of pushing us toward exciting yet daunting opportunities.

Leveraging our building industry connections, we've secured initial jobs and quickly researched lighting gear and techniques.

This venture is thrilling yet intense. We apologize for reduced online activity but promise to keep reading blogs and delivering valuable content.

To establish ourselves in San Diego, we're pausing long-term travel. Short trips—up to a couple of weeks—remain on the horizon, including San Antonio, the Grand Canyon, Santa Barbara, and possibly the Galápagos Islands. We'll draw from past adventures like Nepal and Yellowstone too.

Stay tuned for our upcoming Yellowstone video!

Long-term travel dreams are postponed, not canceled—this U.S. opportunity is too promising to miss.

We'll keep you posted. Thank you for joining our journey and reading Ordinary Traveler—we truly appreciate you!

  • Ocean8 Challenge: Master the Waves with Confidence

A day of firsts From the beach it had all looked so calm and flat. The sun was shining and kids were building sandcastles, but as we left the sheltered bay the wind picked up and transformed our serene haven into a choppy, pushy mess. Even the sun made a quick escape, adding to the sense of exposure and vulnerability. It’s OK, I told myself; you’ve done this a million times before. You’ve even got a safety paddler. Turning my head for a breath, I stole a sneaky glimpse at Dave, my long-time

  • Witnessing Orcas Off the Scottish Coast: A Memorable 24‑Hour Ferry Journey

An enormous orca leaps clean into the air and plunges back down, splashing into the ocean. It’s a welcome that Jim and I won’t forget as we step out onto the viewing deck for some fresh air while our ferry steams through the Minch. Utilising the royal flush of transport to get here (car, train, bus, and ferry), this journey may have taken an entire 24 hours, but we have certainly reached one of the extremities of the United Kingdom. The whale gives us another flyby before presumably returni

  • Reconnecting: A Solo Trail Run Through Snow-Covered Peaks

Snow falls from a stark white sky as we wordlessly pick our way through gullies, scrambling over boulders and crags towards the saddle between two peaks. After an hour of hard climbing, we stand for a moment at the top before picking the pace back up and heading north over grassy fells and bog. We settle into a rhythm, and enjoy a perfect trail run alone in our thoughts as we zip across the ancient terrain. The memories and stress of the year fall behind us with every step as we soak up the
