Stunning Wildlife Photography at La Jolla Cove, San Diego
La Jolla, affectionately nicknamed "The Jewel," lives up to its name with attractions like the mesmerizing La Jolla Cove. Note: This is not the cove featured in dolphin-slaughter documentaries from Taiji, Japan.
La Jolla Cove brims with vibrant marine life and crystal-clear blue waters. During our first kayaking trip here, we explored the stunning natural sea caves. We followed up with a refreshing ocean swim and snorkeling among the vivid orange Garibaldi fish, a common sight in these waters.
The Children's Pool in La Jolla Cove was once a family favorite for play and swimming. Since the early 1990s, harbor seals, brown pelicans, and other birds have claimed it as their habitat. Seals now hold squatters' rights, much to the chagrin of some longtime La Jolla residents with fond memories of beach days with their kids.
The reason seals abandoned nearby Seal Rock, just a mile offshore, remains a mystery. Debate continues over access rights: humans, seals, or both?
Beyond the natural scents of wildlife, La Jolla Cove is a premier spot for wildlife photography in San Diego, with breathtaking ocean views as a bonus.
