How to Spot Puffins in Scotland's Treshnish Isles: A Guide to Lunga Island
“Communing with the wild, and with birds like puffins, is as important as sunshine, sleep or vitamin C. Puffin therapy is a great way to get that fix.” — Dr. Nick Baylis

Scotland's stunning wildlife and dramatic landscapes drew me to this enchanting country. While planning my Hebridean island adventure, I discovered the puffin colonies thriving in the Treshnish Isles. Departing from the Isle of Mull, I joined a boat excursion to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles, landing on Lunga for an unforgettable puffin encounter.
I spent hours sitting peacefully among these charming birds, surrounded by fellow visitors beaming with joy. It was pure 'puffin therapy'—one of my most cherished travel memories.
Puffins fascinate with their unique lifecycle: they breed on land from April to August (perfect timing for my May visit), then spend winter at sea. Their waterproof feathers and ability to drink saltwater enable ocean survival.

Know Before You Go: Turus Mara’s daily cruises depart from the Isle of Mull at 11:30 am, returning at 5:45 pm. Spend 1 hour on Staffa and 2 hours on Lunga. Prices: £55 adults, £27.50 children, or £140 for a family of two adults and two children.
