Virtual 200th Anniversary Celebration of Philipsburg's Historic Old Mud Church

Virtual 200th Anniversary Celebration of Philipsburg s Historic Old Mud Church

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the in-person events planned for the 200th anniversary of Philipsburg’s Old Mud Church in summer 2020 have been postponed. However, the Philipsburg Historical Foundation is hosting a series of online celebrations on its new website, with details forthcoming. Commemorative items are available for purchase online through Vaux Electronics of Philipsburg, including a detailed cutout of the church by The Cat’s Meow Village of Wooster, Ohio, as well as Mud Church mugs, glasses, and T-shirts. Visit www.rockinv.com and follow the fundraiser link to support this milestone.

Philipsburg’s premier historic sites—the Old Mud Church and the John Henry Simler House—will open on a limited basis Sundays from 2-4 p.m., starting July 5, 2020.

Visits are restricted to small groups of five or fewer, requiring masks, social distancing, contact information from each visitor, and sanitization after each tour. While some groups tour the interiors, others may explore the Mud Church cemetery or the Pennsylvania German gardens behind the Simler House. For tours at other times, call 342-4842, 321-8583, or 577-1994.

The Philipsburg Historical Museum and Reading Room will remain closed through the epidemic. For genealogical or research inquiries, contact the numbers above. We look forward to safer times ahead and reopening fully in 2021.
