Myrtle Beach Slingshot: A Reluctant First-Timer's Thrilling Ride Review

Myrtle Beach Slingshot: A Reluctant First-Timer s Thrilling Ride Review

For years, the Visit Myrtle Beach team urged me to try the Slingshot, the heart-pounding ride right near the SkyWheel in downtown Myrtle Beach. Visible from our offices, it's accompanied by near-constant screams throughout the day.

I resisted fiercely—roller coasters terrify me, and this seemed far worse. I'd take a root canal instead. But I finally went with a friend. It was every bit as intense as feared (see video). Once the wild bouncing ended, the views were breathtaking. Advice: Fast before riding. It's like reverse bungee jumping meets skydiving, hitting speeds up to 100 mph.

A fun perk: Buy ride video footage upfront. Nobody shines while screaming and flailing, but it's comedy gold. Enjoy!
