Disability and Special Needs Services in Myrtle Beach: Horry and Georgetown County Programs
The Horry County Disabilities and Special Needs Board (HCDSNB) provides essential residential and vocational programs, adult activity centers, early intervention, respite care, and case management for individuals with special needs. Residential options include two eight-bed group homes, ten four-bed facilities, a 10-unit apartment complex, and an independent living program. New Ideas Industries, HCDSNB's day services arm, operates work activities centers in Conway and Loris. These centers deliver support services, day activities, community integration, and career preparation, with skills training ranging from basic social and personal care to paid contract work.
The Georgetown County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs offers comparable services for residents with intellectual disabilities, autism, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries, high-risk infants, toddlers, and related conditions. Their free early intervention program, "Teach & Grow," provides home-based training for children with developmental delays and their families. A curriculum-based assessment evaluates strengths and needs in cognition, socialization, language, motor skills, and self-help.
