Discover Georgia's Golden Isles Piers: Prime Spots for Fishing, Sunsets, and Waterfront Relaxation
Georgia's Golden Isles boast four exceptional public piers, offering endless ways to savor sunny days by the water. Rent fishing gear from a local tackle shop for a morning catch, pack a picnic for waterfront dining while watching for playful dolphins, or take an evening stroll with ice cream as the sun dips below the horizon, sparkling across the waves.
Select from the St. Simons Pier, Gascoigne Bluff Pier, Jekyll Island Pier, or Blythe Island Regional Park Pier. Whichever you choose, expect an unforgettable pier experience.

St. Simons Island Pier
A top attraction on St. Simons Island, Pier Village combines shopping and dining with favorites like Barbara Jean's and Brogen's South, plus boutiques offering souvenirs, home décor, and local art. It's an ideal launchpad for island adventures: rent bikes from Island Bicycle Company, pick up a Tree Spirit Map at the Golden Isles Welcome Center, visit Neptune Park's playground and pool, or explore the St. Simons Lighthouse. Free parking adds to the appeal.
Ideal for leisurely walks or fishing at dawn or dusk, the pier delivers breathtaking views of St. Simons Sound toward Jekyll Island (just a mile away), sunsets behind the Sidney Lanier Bridge in Brunswick, and occasional cargo ships heading to sea.

Know Before You Go: For safety, bikes and dogs are not allowed on the pier.

Gascoigne Bluff Pier
Surrounded by ancient live oaks within Epworth by the Sea, this intimate pier is a local favorite for fishing over the Mackay River marshes. Spot the F.J. Torras Causeway linking St. Simons to Brunswick; its westward view makes it prime for sunsets.
It's also a great launch for paddleboards and kayaks—check tides and currents first. Bring your own chairs, bait, and gear for fishing. Afterward, refuel at Certified Burgers & Beverage (three miles away) with juicy burgers, fresh salads, or milkshakes.
Know Before You Go: From Hamilton Road, turn left into Epworth by the Sea. At the stop sign, go left and follow dirt roads to the picnic pavilion and restrooms.

Jekyll Island Pier
Located at Clam Creek Picnic Area on Jekyll's northern tip, this pier is easily accessible by bike from island hotels or steps from the campground. Clam Creek Beach leads to iconic Driftwood Beach eastward.
Grab breakfast pastries or sandwiches at The Pantry, then rent bikes from The Bike Dude (delivery available). Enjoy top-tier sunsets like St. Simons Pier, making any visit—morning, noon, or evening—memorable.
Know Before You Go: Jekyll Island requires an $8 daily entrance fee; buy passes online or at the gate.

Blythe Island Regional Park Pier
In Brunswick off I-95 Exit 29, Blythe Island Regional Park offers camping, a lake, swimming beach, fishing (fresh- and saltwater), boat ramp, playground, trails, volleyball, and picnicking.
The pier sits by the marina on the South Brunswick River, supporting pier, inshore, or offshore fishing (power hoist for boats up to 10,000 lbs). A freshwater lake onsite yields bass, bream, catfish, and crappie.
Know Before You Go: Review fishing rules, campground details, and park info online.
Fishing from the Piers
A Georgia Fishing License (available via Georgia DNR online) is required for fishing or crabbing. Local bait shops abound: near St. Simons Pier, at Jekyll's Clam Creek, and Blythe Island's marina. Always clean up after yourself and respect fellow visitors.
Any pier—or all four!—promises stunning vistas, wildlife sightings, and warm welcomes. Embrace the 'pier pressure' on your next Golden Isles getaway!
