Disney's The Lion King Review: Patrick's Insider Take at ASU Gammage
This season, I'm thrilled to serve as a Gammage Goer for ASU Gammage, reviewing select performances. Disney's The Lion King opened last night and runs through November 17th, delivering an unforgettable experience.
With roots in Freehold, NJ—Bruce Springsteen's hometown—and just an hour south of New York City, I've enjoyed Broadway shows over the years. I'm no theater expert, but as an everyday enthusiast, my perspective mirrors that of most attendees at Gammage.
Assuming familiarity with the story, I'll note that revisiting it after the film and prior Broadway viewing revealed fresh details. Stunning costumes and innovative set design shine, especially the iconic moment when "animals" procession through the audience at the start—pure magic that thrilled kids singing along.
The cast excels, with young Simba and Nala stealing scenes through remarkable poise and talent. Whether you've seen the movie or show before, it's worth experiencing again. Highly recommended for all ages.
