Pedal Haus Brewery Opens in Downtown Tempe: A Fresh Gastropub Gem on Mill Avenue

October in Tempe is already proving unforgettable, with events like Tour de Fat and Oktoberfest kicking off a season of fun, friends, and exceptional beer.

The month also marks the grand opening of Pedal Haus Brewery at 730 S. Mill Ave., Tempe, AZ 85281—Temepe's latest brewery and restaurant. Created by Julian Wright, the visionary behind local favorites La Bocca and Handlebar Tempe (affectionately dubbed the "Mayor of Mill Ave."), Pedal Haus delivers once again. The spacious interior boasts one of the largest outdoor patios around, ideal for enjoying cooler evenings with great food and drinks.

I've dined there twice for lunch, and the welcoming vibe starts at the entrance with an eye-catching archway of vintage bicycle spokes. Prominent brew tanks at the rear highlight their commitment to crafting three signature beers, expected by late October or early November—details on names and styles remain a tantalizing mystery.

The menu offers diverse salads, sandwiches, entrées, and gastropub classics. My first pick, the Open Face Hot Ham and Cheese, featured thick-cut ham, roasted garlic crème, Gruyère, and a sunny-side-up egg. It was hearty, flavorful, and unforgettable—perfect for those seeking substantial, elevated comfort food.

On my second visit, I opted for the Avocado Salad with grilled corn, tomatoes, baked goat cheese, cilantro, toasted croutons, and a zesty jalapeño lime vinaigrette, topped with grilled chicken. Colleagues raved about its vibrant colors, and I can confirm it was deliciously satisfying—not your average bland salad. As a regular salad eater, this ranks among my top recent experiences.

Pedal Haus impresses with its food quality and atmosphere. I'm already eyeing the Chicken Pot Pie for my next visit. If you're exploring Tempe's vibrant weekend scene, it's the ideal spot to refuel while strolling Mill Ave.
