Experience ASU Homecoming 2019 in Tempe: Lantern Walk, Parade, Block Party & Football Thrills
Homecoming at Arizona State University is a cherished tradition where students, alumni, parents, and the community unite to celebrate Sun Devil spirit, pride, and heritage. ASU Homecoming Week, November 17-23, 2019, features exciting events leading up to the marquee football game against the Oregon Ducks. From the iconic Lantern Walk to the vibrant parade and family-friendly festivities, join the excitement on the ASU Tempe campus!
Lantern Walk
Established in 1917, the Lantern Walk is one of ASU's oldest and most beloved traditions. Students, alumni, faculty, and community members carry lanterns up "A" Mountain, following in the footsteps of Sun Devil forebears to illuminate Tempe.
At the summit, Homecoming Royalty is announced. Held the Friday night before the game, this year's Lantern Walk is on Friday, November 22, 2019.
*Pre-ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m. with a DJ; the hike begins at 6:00 p.m.
Homecoming Parade
On Saturday, November 23, 2019, thousands line the streets for the Homecoming Parade. Featuring student floats, the ASU marching band, colleges, departments, community groups, and local celebrities, it's a highlight of Sun Devil traditions.
The parade starts at University and Myrtle, proceeds east across College Avenue, and ends at McAllister.
*Begins at 1:30 p.m., four hours before kickoff against Oregon.
Block Party
Right after the parade, the ASU Homecoming Block Party transforms the Old Main Lawn and 14 acres of campus into a festival. Over 100 department booths offer games, giveaways, and interactive experiences—perfect for families!
Kids love the free Passport to ASU activity:
- Pick up your passport at an info booth.
- Collect stamps while discovering fun ASU facts at various sites.
- Return it to the ASU Gammage tent for a prize!
Game Day
Cheer on the Sun Devils as they face the Oregon Ducks at Sun Devil Stadium on Saturday, November 23, 2019. Don't miss this epic matchup!
