Tamara Waterston: Off-the-Beaten-Path Adventures in Santa Rosa and Sonoma County
We're standing with Santa Rosa and Sonoma County as they welcome travelers after the recent fires. Businesses are open, green grass is returning, and the stunning countryside awaits. Join us in supporting this vibrant destination and its resilient spirit. Visit and experience California's beauty!
Santa Rosa and Sonoma County are renowned for wine country, but our Northern California trip focused on active outdoor adventures beyond the vineyards.
Earlier this summer, we connected with California locals who shared their top recommendations for Sonoma. Rave reviews for hot air balloon rides caught our attention—perfect for our anniversary celebration.
Up and Away Ballooning in Healdsburg, CA, delivered an unforgettable experience. After an early wake-up and weather confirmation, we boarded the basket as the balloon heated up. Soon, we floated high above the vineyards, just before sunrise.

The panoramic views were breathtaking. Drifting slowly, we savored Sonoma from above. Post-landing, we enjoyed a family-style champagne brunch at Healdsburg Shed with our fellow passengers. This bucket-list activity is worth every early morning!
Healdsburg and the Russian River offer excellent off-the-beaten-path exploration: hike, kayak, or bike scenic trails amid the vineyards.
For a coastal twist, we drove 30 minutes west from Santa Rosa to Dillon Beach. The winding roads and ocean views made it an ideal day trip. In Tomales, grab lunch at K&A Take Away and indulge in a chocolate devil brownie at Tomales Bakery.
