KwanzaaFest 2017: Dallas’s Premier Cultural Celebration – Free Admission, Music, Health & Family Fun

This year marks the 27th edition of KwanzaaFest, Dallas’s vibrant cultural celebration. Held over two days (Dec. 9–10) at Fair Park, the event offers free admission—just bring a ticket—to a day of music, health services, and family‑friendly activities.

The Lineup

Kick off Saturday morning with the “Tackle Obesity” 5K run, followed by the expansive Health Fest that delivers more than 70 medical services and preventive‑health education to the community. While you’re there, browse local vendors for holiday gifts—perfect for last‑minute shopping. Families will delight in KidFest, featuring games, fashion shows, live music, and more. (Individual 5K registration closes Dec. 6.)

Live Music & Talent

Mini‑concerts by Dallas’s finest jazz and R&B artists fill the day. Instagram sensations Dan (@danrue) and Nick (@nicknpattiwhack) headline the KwanzaaFest National Showdown Singing Contest, offering a $10,000 prize. Sunday’s headline is gospel icon Michael Bethany, who has collaborated with Kirk Franklin, Marvin Sapp, and appeared in Tyler Perry’s “I Can Do Bad All By myself.”

Don’t miss the African American Museum, the Southwest’s only institution dedicated to preserving African‑American heritage. After the festival, stroll through Fair Park’s Holiday Wonder to admire the two‑million‑light display of holiday‑themed Chinese lanterns.
