Discover Bishop Cider Co.: Dallas’ Bubbly Artisan Cider & Arcade Experience

Love for cider is the foundation of Bishop Cider Co., a Dallas‑based craft cider brand founded by husband‑wife duo Joel and Laura Malone in 2014.

After years of experimenting with home brew, the Malones turned their passion into a thriving business, now producing thousands of kegs and a diverse lineup of award‑winning ciders.

I had the pleasure of visiting their tap room in Bishop Arts District, where you can sample six days a week from a rotating selection of the company’s most celebrated creations.

Guided by their in‑house cider master, I discovered that the perfect match for my palate was their flagship “Crackberry” – a bright, berry‑forward cider – and their classic original recipe, a nod to the Malone’s college‑era experiments. For newcomers, the cider flight is an ideal way to explore the range before committing to a single favorite.

The real highlight, however, is Cidercade in the Design District – a hybrid cider bar and arcade that offers more than 100 vintage and modern games, from Centipede and Galaga to a full wall of pinball machines.

Admission is just $10 for unlimited play, and the venue is family‑friendly during the day. Kids can enjoy classic titles until 8 p.m., after which the 18+ policy applies.

Food options are plentiful: bring your own, order local delivery, or dine on one of the Saturday night food truck line‑ups.

Pair your game time with one of the seasonal ciders on tap – try the daring Mango Habanero, the nostalgic Dreamsicle, or the indulgent Salted Caramel Apple.

In addition to gaming, cider enthusiasts can join a complimentary tour every first Saturday of the month at 12:30 p.m. The tour delves into fermentation, canning, and the secrets behind the Malones’ craft.

Just short of cultivating an apple orchard, Bishop Cider Co. embodies local pride. Grab a friend, order a pint, pick your favorite game, and see if you can set a new high score.

  • Exploring the Golden Eagle on Islay’s Oa Reserve

The short and dark days of winter are now but a memory, and spring, as I write this, is upon us. The wildflowers have begun slowly unfurling, reaching towards the light of longer days. Skylarks are singing high over their prospective territories and the heather stems rustle around me. You’ll find me on the Isle of Islay, Queen of the Hebrides. I am the warden of the Oa reserve, a 2,100-hectare nature reserve and working farm owned by the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds). In
