Family‑Friendly Valentine’s Day Ideas in Dallas

Valentine’s Day is more than a romantic celebration—it’s a perfect opportunity to share joy and connection with the whole family. Below are family‑focused activities that promise fun for every age.

Enjoy a Picnic at the Dallas Arboretum

The Dallas Arboretum offers one of Dallas’s most picturesque picnic spots, surrounded by vibrant floral displays. Bring a homemade lunch or pick up treats from the Cafe on the Green, and let children explore the lawns while parents unwind amid nature. Admission is only $5 through Feb. 22. Don’t miss the upcoming Dallas Blooms festival, the Southwest’s largest floral celebration, opening Feb. 23.

Celebrate Texas Wildlife Weekend at the Dallas Zoo

The Dallas Zoo is spreading the love this Valentine’s Day as it hosts Texas Wildlife Weekend on Feb. 9–10. Kids can craft Valentine’s Day cards for their favorite animal, staff member, or conservation hero. Afterwards, the whole family can enjoy live music and a variety of dining options. Parents can also give their children the chance to adopt a cuddly animal—adopters receive a personalized certificate, a color photo, a zookeeper’s report, and a special invitation to a zoo event. The Adopt‑An‑Animal program runs year‑round, and the zoo handles all feeding and upkeep. Admission is only $8 for kids and adults through Feb. 28.

Join the Hot Chocolate 15k/5k Fun Run

Show your love to family—or your competitive side—with the Hot Chocolate 15k/5k fun run on Feb. 9 in Fair Park. Join more than 10,000 runners and walkers, and finish with a post‑race party featuring a finisher’s mug filled with hot chocolate.

Indulge in Local Chocolate Treats

Surprise the kids with a visit to Kate Weiser Chocolate, where they’ll love Carl the melting snowman. The hand‑painted chocolates are as beautiful as they are tasty, and the unique flavor combinations are always fun to explore. Alternatively, treat the whole family to a chocolate tour with Dallas by Chocolate Tours—offering the Decadent Valentine’s Dream tour, Chocolate for Your Heart tour, and more. Check the website for times and dates.
