Links We Love: September 15, 2012 – Must-See Art & Armchair Travel Picks

Links We Love, a compendium of what we're loving right now. Happy armchair traveling.

Among the new gallery shows opening in NYC this week, I was most wowed by Lynette Yiadom Boakye at Jack Shainman, whose huge, stark portraits of imaginary people are made monumental. - Jeralyn, editorial director

Airplanes meet cruise ships — literally — in Air + Port, a striking and innovative mixed-use transportation proposal for Greenland by Danish architectural firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group, named for the architect recently profiled in the New Yorker). It's their entry at the Venice Biennale Architectura 2012, which runs until November 25. Designboom has the images; Nowness has a lovely video interview of Ingels shot on the water in Venice. - Pavia, founder/CEO

New York hotel prices are insane so it was refreshing to see The Erhart, a historic brownstone originally built for the Pfizer family, on Airbnb. Prices are incredibly reasonable and the location will give guests a chance to experience Brooklyn up close. - Berit, Assistant Editor

Instagram Horoscopes: Every week, I look forward to the new McSweeneys Internet Tendencies. This one, about what your Instagram filter says about you, is particularly fitting for the times. - Jeralyn

A Canadian design collective (Daily Tous Les Jours) in Montreal installed 21 Balançoires, color-coded swings linked-up with instrument sounds (xylophone, piano). When people swing they effectively "play" the instrument, creating all sorts of complex harmonies. - Jeralyn

"Thoughtful parents taking flight with young twin boys hand out sweets to other passengers (and even brought earplugs for everyone)." How's that for a news headline you don't see every day? - Pavia
