Fathom's Favorite Links: June 18, 2016 Edition
What we're clicking on this week at Fathom HQ.
I love the shapes, angles, and shadows of cityscape photography. So you know I'm having a field day with these bold, acrylic paintings of cityscapes by Brooklyn-based German artist Daniel Rich. – Daniel, editorial assistant
There's a new map of New York City. No, it does not plot celebrity townhouses, but rather the habitats of plants and animals. – Jeralyn, editorial director
From this weekend through July 3, visitors and art tourists will be walking on water on Lake Iseo in northern Italy on The Floating Pier. The latest site-specific art project by Christo and his late wife, Jean-Claude, is stunning: 100,000 meters of saffron fabric that move with the waves. The artist's website has incredible, detailed images of the project from sketch to completion. – Pavia CEO
I abhor hot, humid summer days. So much so I'm considering this portable mini-USB fan that's powered by your phone. Kitschy and a little weird? Yes. But I've been seeing a lot of them around Korea lately, which means I'll simply be ahead of the game. – Becky, assistant editor
So impressed with these vegan galaxy donuts. Can someone learn how to make them and teach me? – Berit, editor
Stumbled upon this lovely but also sobering interactive website 30 of the world's more interesting endangered species. – Becky
There may come a time in my life when planning my own trips become so predictable that it detracts from the joys of traveling — another predictably trendy restaurant, another stunning beach to Instagram. When that happens, I'll seek out companies like Jubel. They curate adventures. And don't give you your itinerary until you get to the airport. – Daniel
Danish composer Per Nørgård, internationally known but rarely heard in the U.S., showcases his musical personality (marchlike, looping, bucolic, natural, geometric, irreverent) with a slew of new works making their premiere in NYC. I need to find a ticket. – Jeralyn
Speaking of Danish art, I'm loving architect Bjarke Ingels' Summer House at the Serpentine Pavilion in London. It looks like a designer's dream jungle gym and is there through October 9. There's also a ton of other great art going on in London right now: Yayoi Kusama's pumpkins at Victoria Miro's Wharf Road gallery, the brand new Tate Modern extension by Herzog & de Meuron. When can I go? – Becky
Fathom contributor Kate Donnelly is taking your summer vacation and wardrobe up a notch with a guide on how to travel like one of Hitchcock's leading ladies. – Berit
