Discover Lake Charles' Newest Golf Gem: Country Club at Golden Nugget
Recently, while enjoying dinner at Joe’s Pizza & Pasta—one of my favorite local Italian spots known for its authentic Sicilian marinara sauce—my family dove into a lively discussion about golf.
My brother-in-law raved about his recent round at Gray Plantation, while my grandfather anticipated his weekend game at Frasch Park Golf Course in Sulphur.
The conversation turned exciting as we noted the recent opening of Lake Charles' newest course: the Country Club at Golden Nugget. Golf enthusiasts have been eager to experience it, with writers reaching out to plan visits.
This 18-hole, par-72 course, masterfully designed by award-winning architect Todd Eckenrode and Origins Golf Design, sits beautifully along the bayou. It features premium Miniverde greens and Celebration Bermuda tees, fairways, and roughs—making it a must-play for golfers of all skill levels.
As a premier resort destination, Lake Charles now boasts two elite casino-adjacent courses. Neighboring L’Auberge Casino Resort’s Contraband Bayou Golf Club is a par-71 Tom Fazio masterpiece with natural vegetation, eight challenging lakes, and accolades including Golfweek’s Best Places to Play in Louisiana and Best Casino Courses. Carts are equipped with interactive touchscreen GPS.

Golfing and gaming have reached new heights in Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana!
