Mallard Golf Club in Lake Charles: Now Open for Tee Times on Premier Scottish Links Course

The City of Lake Charles proudly announces the grand opening of Mallard Golf Club, a championship Scottish links-inspired course masterfully designed by Jeff Blume. Tee time bookings are now live—get ready to hit the links! Familiar to locals as the former Mallard Cove near Chennault, the new course is located at Morgan Field off E. McNeese St. A soft opening runs throughout October, with tee times available weekends starting Saturday, Oct. 9 (Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays). November expands to a 6-day schedule.

Stepping onto the course reveals preserved natural beauty, enhancing the golfing experience. Spot white egrets soaring overhead amid 2-3 acre pockets of wetlands and 20 acres of scenic lakes, alive with wildlife and lush foliage.

This premier course offers five sets of tee boxes, elevated greens, and rolling hills, surrounded by native areas without trees for an authentic Scottish links feel unique to Louisiana. Fast, firm fairways maximize roll with generous landing zones, challenging elite players while welcoming higher handicaps. Longtime PGA Professional Johnathan Jester, a Lake Charles veteran, leads as the club's first Golf Professional.

Sterling Golf Management CEO Rene Rangel calls it "the nicest municipal course in the state." It boasts PGA-quality Celebration and TifEagle bermudagrass, 101 bunkers, and Lake Charles' only public driving range.

Elevated greens promote optimal turf health and ball roll. The range features upcoming artificial turf, Better Billy Bunker technology for superior bunkers, and space for high school golfers even on busy days. New ClubCar golf carts include GPS and Bluetooth.

The clubhouse construction begins soon after bidding, targeting completion in early to mid-2023 (12-14 months). An awning off the cart barn provides interim seating. For near-term tournaments, expect open-air setups with food trucks. A temporary pro shop in the cart barn offers fresh branded merchandise.
