Ginny Fuchs Returns to Roots at 2020 U.S. Olympic Boxing Trials in Lake Charles
Virginia (“Ginny”;) Fuchs ranks among the world's elite female boxers. A seasoned champion with a decade of success, including an undefeated 18-0 record in 2017, she captained the U.S. team at the Rio Olympics and remains a top gold medal contender for Tokyo 2020.
Stepping into the ring at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing and USA Boxing National Championships at the Lake Charles Civic Center (Dec. 9-15), Fuchs will draw national attention and heartfelt local support from Louisiana fans in purple and gold.
The Houston native launched her boxing career at Louisiana State University, initially as a track athlete on a team with over a dozen NCAA national championships. She quickly excelled in Golden Gloves tournaments, progressing from local to national stages.
In 2010—as women's boxing debuted as an Olympic sport—Fuchs targeted the Games. She reached the semifinals of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials and competed worldwide while training for 2016 and 2020. Now ranked No. 3 globally in flyweight.

Despite global travels and accolades, her Louisiana return resonates deeply.
“I am coming back to the place where I started boxing. My boxing family in Louisiana, they’ve been following me, and they haven’t seen me fight live in years. I’m so pumped for it. This will be the best trials I’ve done, back home fighting in my element,” she shared.
On Olympic gold pressure, Fuchs exudes confidence: “I believe in myself.”
