Dining Delights: New Farm, Newstead & Teneriffe – Brisbane’s Chic Riverfront Eats

New Farm Park, tick. Brisbane Powerhouse, tick. Everything you want to eat, tick. With highly sought-after real estate comes an onslaught of fantastic boutiques, stylish visitors and, of course, a range of epic eateries. Expect nothing less than chic dining in laid-back settings from the cafes, restaurants and bars lining the suburban streets of New Farm, Newstead and Teneriffe.

Riverside Dining

Head to the Brisbane Powerhouse and find Mary Mae's overlooking the river. Tuck into a range of snack foods, soulful bites and sharing platters. Prefer some Italian? Make your way upstairs to Bar Alto for good food and a great view. For casual dining we recommend Malt Pier, it offers delicious dishes in a refreshing, alfresco setting.

Breakfast spots

Finding breakfast spots in these areas is like finding patisseries in Paris – there’s plenty of them and you can never go wrong. Start your brunching journey in Teneriffe where a variety of cafes are found along the same street. Housed within the old woolstores, Brio serves classic breakfast options while Wilde Kitchen is strictly picturesque paleo and can cater to most dietary requirements. Take a short stroll down the street for local produce at Kin & Co or a tasty menu at Samson & Sophie comprising of apple and coconut hotcakes, roast pumpkin fritters and Italian eggs.

Other local favourites include Miss Jones for its delectable breakfast in a pretty and pink setting, Vue Lounge for the crab omelette and oven-baked teriyaki salmon or Nodo for gluten-free and completely Instagram-able breakfasts. On Commercial Rd, Evolve Café is specialising in plant-based food and cold-pressed juices, while a little further down, you'll find a gourmet market, fresh produce and delicious breakfast at Sourced Grocer.

Modern bistros

Acclaimed Brisbane restaurant e'cco bistro is dishing up the same award-winning modern Australian dining experience all Brisbane locals came to know and love in it's previous Brisbane City location. Across the street, Hatch & Co is serving up small and large share plates using local and seasonal produce while Rogue Bistro is another Brisbane favourite located only a short walk away.

If you're looking for a high-end bistro experience without a jaw-dropping price-tag, then Allium is your best bet. They have been included in the Gourmet Traveller Australian Restaurant Guide for 2019 so it's definitely one to watch.

Fancy a drink with that?

Enjoy a few cocktails with dinner at Gerties Bar & Restaurant where it’s not uncommon to pair a burger, schnitzel or variety of tapas with an upper westside cocktail. Keep the drinks flowing and step inside a red brick building to find casual dining at its finest. Bitter Suite promises a laid-back atmosphere with local brews, epic cocktails and delicious eats.

There's often a crowd at Mrs Brown's Bar & Kitchen and there's no question as to why. With prawn rolls, honey lemon chicken wings, slow roasted lamb shoulder and crispy pork belly lining the menu, the only thing missing is a beverage and they're certainly not lacking in this department.

With a menu perfectly created for long lunches and dinners, there's no need to rush at Drum Dining. Share the croquettes, calamari and chorizo to start while you peruse the extensive wine list and finish with a prawn linguine or charred sirloin.

If you're looking for a top-notch place to Sunday sesh, The Defiant Duck combines 24 craft and local beers on tap, a range of American-style eats and a DJ spinning decks to compliment your lazy Sunday afternoon. When the party is over, Cheeky Poke Bar sits across the street, serving up traditional Hawaiian poke bowls, signature tacos and cocktails.

Take it international

There’s no need for an overseas holiday when there’s already a huge variety of international eats in New Farm, Newstead and Teneriffe. Taste the flavours of Italy at Vine Restaurant & Bar, where every bite will leave you wanting more. Dishing up mouth-watering traditional Italian cuisine, Beccofino is a local favourite that has Brisbane constantly raving. Always arrive early as there can usually be a line of people craving the signature duck ragu and wood-fired pizzas.

The Italian flavours don't stop there. Italian Street Kitchen in Gasworks serves topping-loaded pizzas and pastas or head across the street for cheese-wheel pasta and all-you-can-eat pizza at Salt Meats Cheese.

Starting in 1977 selling an authentic line of small goods and other continental delights, New Farm Deli & Café is now known for excellent coffee and traditional Italian dishes.

When in Rome you eat pizza and pasta, and when you’re in New Farm you do just that plus more at Tocco Italiano. The menu consists of wood-fired pizzas, fresh pasta and a range of Italian dishes with an Australian twist – we're talking about Moreton Bay bugs with asparagus, buffalo mozzarella and bisque reduction. Jump to the other side of the world or simply walk down the street to find fresh Japanese cuisine at Mizu Japanese, Zero Fox or Yuzu & Co Japanese. For sushi with a local flare stop in at Reef Seafood for super fresh locally caught produce. Chai Thai is a favourite among locals for authentic dishes packed with flavour while Phat Pho is fulfilling all your Vietnamese street food cravings – are you pho real?

Finish off in the deep south with tastes of America at The Smoke BBQ. When yanks join forces to produce smoked meats and homemade barbecue sauces, there’s nothing they can’t accomplish. Everyone loves a good burger, and Betty's Burgers undoubtedly serve some of the best burgers in town. Our personal favourite? The crispy chicken with a side of onion rings and chocolate peanut butter thick shake to finish.
