Nicaragua Rocks: Discovering the Iconic Rocking Chair Tradition
The entire country rocks—literally. Our deep affection for Nicaragua shines through, but we're spotlighting a beloved custom: each evening, locals gather with friends and family in living rooms or on porches, gently rocking the night away in their chairs.

Even during early morning walks through sun-drenched streets, we glimpsed men and women in cool, open-front homes, reading newspapers and sipping coffee while rocking peacefully. This architectural openness—with wide doors and windows—mirrors Nicaraguans' welcoming, gregarious nature. It's a silent invitation: "Join us; we're all connected in this community."

Thankfully, this tradition extends beyond homes—many hostels and restaurants offer rocking chairs, letting visitors immerse in 'Nicaraguan life.'

As sunset approached, we savored Flor de Caña rum, watching the world pass from our rocking chairs.

And yes, it rocked!
