La Campana Archaeological Site: A Glimpse into Mesoamerican Heritage

Wonderful Ancient VestigesLocated between the Colima River and the Pereyra lake, is the archaeological site of la Campana, a village that belongs to the tradition of the Tehuchitlán, that developed in paralel with cities like Teotihuacán in Monte Albán. This fact indicates this city could have been one of the first settlements in Mesoamerica.
The place, that seems to be hided in the urban side of Colima and at only 15 minutes by car from the main square, enjoys lush vegetation and you can barely perceive the sound of the wind that makes you imagine quite vivid how was life in the past without using a time machine.
The place keeps the original trace of its streets, the stone platforms and numerous petroglyphs carved all along its patios, it is posible to see the a ball game as well as the waste drain system developed back in the date.
Browsing the zone, you'll be surprised when finding tunnels that seem to be connected underground, even though today, it's impossible to explore them, there are a lot of questions surroundig their use.
Another extraordinary experience for visitors who come to La Campana are the trips to the Colima volcano and its snowy peak surrounded only by the sky, the trees and the ruins.
