Altavista Archaeological Site: Unveiling Zacatecas' Ancient Celestial Hub

Delve into the past of ZacatecasThis archaeological site is located in the municipality of Chalchihuites and was an important ceremonial and astronomical center.

Some studies suggest that its location is associated to its proximity to the Tropic of Cancer and that its design allows observing the sun's displacement, this way its ancient inhabitants knew the agricultural cycle.

Its importance also lies in the fact that one of the oldest representations of the National Coat of Arms ever recorded was developed here.
The site is visited every year by a large number of people who wish to witness the spring equinox.

To reach the municipality of Chalchihuites you must take Federal Highway No. 45 to Sombrerete and follow the state highway to Jimenez Teul.

The schedule of the archaeological zone is from Monday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00 hours.
