Vieques National Wildlife Refuge: Puerto Rico's Stunning Natural Paradise
Discover the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge, encompassing 18,000 acres of former U.S. military land and offering the island's top attractions. The quieter 3,100-acre western section, once used for storage, provides serene escapes. The expansive 14,700-acre eastern section features a restricted former live-firing range and the island's premier beaches along its southern shore—widely regarded as among Puerto Rico's most beautiful.
The visitors center on the eastern side (open Monday to Friday, 8am–noon and 1pm–3pm) houses a nature center with exhibits on the refuge's flora, fauna, and ecology. Note: It was closed for reconstruction during our latest research.
