Museo Nacional Camilo Cienfuegos: Honoring a Revolutionary Hero
Opened in 1989, this exceptional museum strikingly echoes the Che Guevara monument in Santa Clara. Camilo Cienfuegos led a decisive battle here on the eve of the Cuban Revolution's triumph, capturing the local military barracks—now the Hospital Docente General across from the museum.
Situated beneath a modernist plaza crowned by a 5m-high statue of El Señor de la Vanguardia (Man at the Vanguard), the museum features a meticulously curated exhibit tracing Cienfuegos' life alongside key revolutionary artifacts and mementos. A replica of the 'Dragon I' tank—converted from a tractor for the battle—stands before the hospital. In the back, the Mausoleo de los Mártires del Frente Norte de las Villas commemorates the fallen soldiers.
