Hiawassee

The Brasstown Bald Visitors Center sits atop Georgia’s highest mountain, 4,784 feet above sea level. Nestled within the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, the cloud-level observation deck delivers breathtaking 360-degree vistas of the Southern Appalachian Mountains and valleys. On a clear day, visitors can spot four states from the summit.

The distinctive circular building houses an 8,000-sq-ft museum that showcases interactive exhibits on local cultural and natural history. A short film detailing Brasstown Bald’s dynamic weather patterns and seasonal changes plays regularly in the on-site theater. Access to the summit is available via a shuttle from the parking lot or by hiking the half-mile Summit Trail. Additional trails wind through the surrounding forest, offering a variety of hiking experiences.

A convenient gift shop in the parking lot offers forest-related merchandise, including locally crafted goods. A modest entry fee and shuttle charge apply. Guests can also enjoy picnicking and take in the scenic views.

Gates to Brasstown Bald close during inclement weather. We recommend calling ahead to confirm operational hours and directions, as GPS devices can occasionally mislead.
