Hosted by the City of Salem, the Salem Spice Festival celebrates nearly four centuries of Salem’s history of herbs, teas and spices. The festivities take place in Pioneer Village, the oldest living history museum in America, which is designed to represent Salem in the year 1630 with various examples of colonial architecture.

The perfect kick-off to the fall season, the Salem Spice Festival features a variety of vendors offering everything from freshly made sweets to herbs and tea, information on Salem’s historic sites, and so much more. The festival will also include live music, open hearth cooking, talks, exhibits, harvest crafts, storytelling, and games for the whole family. Spiced cider and other autumnal treats will also be available.

Salem Spice Festival Returns September 14: Celebrate Nearly 400 Years of Herbs, Teas & Spices

Admission to the festival is free, though a donation of $5.00 to support Pioneer Village is suggested. Outside of special events, Pioneer Village is open for tours Saturdays and Sundays at 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, and 2:30 pm June-September. Tours of the Village include information on 17th century life in Salem around three acres of land that house dugouts, wigwams, thatched roof cottages, and the Governor’s Faire House. Culinary and medicinal gardens and a blacksmith shop further interpret early 17th-century colonial life.

Pioneer Village is located in Forest River Park, just one mile from downtown Salem, making it accessible with a quick drive or ride with Zagster.
