Top #DestSalem Photos: Our Favorites from Salem in April

We love seeing everyone’s posts from around Salem, Massachusetts on social media and wanted to share a few of our favorites from last month. Check out our favorite images of Salem from April 2020 below, and use #DestSalem in your own posts to share your photos with us for our May roundup!

Winter Island Light, or the Fort Pickering Lighthouse (pictured below) was established in 1871 as part of the joint effort with the Derby Wharf Light Station and Hospital Point Light Station in Beverly to safely direct ships into Salem harbor regardless of the times of day they were coming in. Today, we think this lighthouse is one of the most photogenic sights in Salem:

The Salem Witch Museum has been keeping us busy from home with lots of virtual programming! Visit their website or follow the museum on Facebook to stay up to date with virtual maps of  the Salem Witch Trials, the “Witch Trials Weekly” video series, talks with the museum’s education director, puzzles, and more.

The Salem Witch Museum’s collection includes pieces related to “Witch City,” like Witch Spoons- the first souvenir spoons sold in America! While visiting Salem today, you can purchase replica Witch Spoons and other souvenir spoons from shops like Trolley Depot and at museums like the Salem Witch Museum and The House of the Seven Gables. (You can shop Salem’s stores 24/7 by shopping online! Find a list of stores with online shops here.)

The statue of Samantha from Bewitched was sponsored by TV Land in 2005 in recognition of the Salem Saga episodes of the show that were filmed in Salem following a studio fire in Hollywood. Bewitched was one of the first shows to be filmed in Salem, and from the 70s through the present Salem has been the setting (or doubled as a setting) for numerous documentaries, feature films, movies, TV series, and more. Find our favorite “filmed in Salem” specials here.

The Hawthorne Hotel recently renovated their lobby! While guests haven’t seen it in person yet, we’re loving the new furniture and carpets and had to share some of their sneak peeks at the hotel’s fresh look:

The Peabody Essex Museum is not only sharing the message below for our walks down Essex Street, but they’re also sharing many of their events online.
